With spring in full bloom, we can't help but get excited about spring-cleaning. There’s just something therapeutic about clearing out all the things you don’t need, opening all the windows and letting the fresh air in after a long winter. These recipes are our favourite go-to DIY natural cleaners because they are so easy to make and guaranteed to get the job done.
The first cleaner is a creamy scouring scrub that you can use on sinks, tubs, hard to scrub dishes and even toilets. All you need are three simple ingredients and away you go!
creamy but tough scrub
- 1 cup of baking soda
- 5 tbsp of liquid castile soap
- 7-8 drops of orange essential oil
Mix the ingredients together until they turn into a creamy paste, and then put them into a small glass jar.
We used orange essential oil for this one because of its natural disinfectant properties, and it smells so fresh and energizing. Lavender, tea tree and peppermint essential oils are also great options.
This next go-to cleaner is an all-purpose spray that is great for wiping down surfaces like stainless steel, wood, tile, granite as well as plastic finishes.
all purpose cleaner
- 2 tbsp (30 ml) liquid castile soap
- 20 drops lemon essential oil
- 10 drops lavender essential oil
Combine ingredients in a 480 ml spray bottle. Fill with water. Shake before use.
Lastly, try out this all-natural glass cleaner recipe that is sure to leave your glass surfaces looking crystal clear. Regular glass cleaners are full of chemicals that can be dangerous for your family and bad for the environment. This natural glass cleaner is just as effective and much safer, especially if you have kids.
natural glass cleaner
- 1/3 cup (80 ml) rubbing alcohol
- ½ cup white vinegar
- 1 tbsp (15 ml) cornstarch
- 5 drops citrus essential oil of your choice
- ¼ teaspoon of natural dish soap (the soap is an emulsifier which will prevent your spray bottle from clogging)
Combine ingredients in a 480 ml spray bottle. Top with water. Shake before use.
These three cleaning products are all we ever really need to keep our homes sparkling clean without having a cupboard full of chemicals. Not only that, but it saves tons of money and is safe for the environment.
