Diffusing essential oils is one of the easiest and most effective ways for you to get the aromatic benefits from your essential oils! Some of us diffuse every day and even have diffusers for specific areas/rooms of the house. Inevitably, over time, residue from your essential oils will start to build up. This could clog your diffuser, damage it, or produce an unpleasant “musty” scent. Here are a couple of ways you can make the most out of your diffuser:
QUICK-CLEAN (AFTER EVERY USE)
You should give your diffuser a very quick wipe down after every use to get rid of the remnants of what you were previously diffusing! To make it easy for you, here is a recipe for a homemade diffuser cleaning mist:
- 100mL Aluminum Bottle
- 10 drops Lemon
- Fill rest with equal parts vinegar and water
- Shake before every use
*Make sure you add in an emulsifier like epsom salt or witch hazel so your oils stay suspended in the water. Citrus oils and vinegar may deteriorate the spray mechanism over time.
Every time you use your diffuser, spray the inside of the tank and wipe it down with a cloth or paper towel before filling it up with water. It’s best to keep this spray bottle where you normally change the water to your diffuser.
MONTHLY DEEP CLEAN
It’s important to put your diffuser through a deep cleaning cycle, especially if you diffuse essential oils every day. This only needs to take place about once a month, and will definitely help your diffuser live a long and happy life!
- Fill your diffuser halfway with water
- Add 1 TBSP of Vinegar
- Let your diffuser run for 5-7 minutes while the vinegar and water mixture circulates through the unit
- Drain your diffuser
- Use a Q-Tip dipped in vinegar to gently clean the sensor pad and tight spots throughout your diffuser
TIPS
- Always unplug your diffuser unit before cleaning
- When dumping the excess water out, always pour from the rear end so the water doesn’t touch any buttons
- Use clean tap water or filtered water (room temperature)
- When you fill your diffuser, make sure it doesn’t exceed the designated water mark/line
